An important and extremely rare pair of English 18th century quarter striking clocks in burr yew and gilt mounted cases of small size by this fine maker. The 8 day movement with original verge escapement and striking the hours on a bell and quarters on two bells, the beautifully engraved backplates signed, Marriott, London. Both have enamel dials and strike/silent dials, one with a 24 hour dial the other with a 12 hour dial and original hands. The burr yew cases are magnificent and have gilded bronze mounts, fretwork, feet and finials of the finest quality.
